Employees of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) held protest in front of the press club, on Friday, against the non-payment of salaries and pension funds for the month of June and July and advance salary for Eid ul Azha. The protest was held under the umbrella of Mehran Workers Union (MWU). Aslam Abbasi and Ramzan Mallah, the leaders of MWU, told the media that more than 2600 employees of WASA, an offshoot organization of Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), did not get salaries and pension funds for the last 3 months due to which their families were in serious financial crisis considering the fact that the Eid was around. They said that they gave applications to the relevant authorities but Managing Director WASA turned a deaf ear to their pleas. They warned that if they were not paid within 48 hours they would have no option but to stop supply of water to citizens.
